World Environment Day is celebrated worldwide to aware people about protection and conservation of our nature from environmental challenges. ICAR-CIFRI marked the World Environment Day, 2018 by planting saplings of Mangrove Sundari trees (Heritiera fomes) on the bank of river Ganga involving native populace to sensitize them about river bank erosion and role of plantation in it’s mitigation. School children, who are the imminent caretaker of society, have also been encouraged in planting the mangrove saplings. Their participation has made the event distinctly significant. Institute staffs and local people have actively interacted about the importance of plantation and conservation of mother earth. A special emphasis is also given on reduction of plastic uses and its disposal in the riverine ecosystem. Following this, Tulsi and Neem (medicinal plants) saplings were also planted in the Institute campus to make it more green and eco-friendly
