The inaugural ceremony of National Productivity Week 2017 was held in auditorium of CIFRI, Barrackpore at 11:30AMon 13th Feb. 2017. All staff members of the institute attended the programme. Dr.B.K.Das, Director, chaired the inaugural ceremony. Dr. B. P. Mohanty, HOD, FREM Division and Dr. U.K. Sarkar, HOD, RWF Division were also present in the occasion. The programme started with welcome address by Sh. P. Maurye, Scientist & Nodal officer, National Productivity Week 2017. He welcomed the dignitaries on chair and all the staff members present in the auditorium. In his welcome address, Sh. Maurye briefed about the importance of National Productivity Week, theme of this year- "From Waste to Profits-Reduce, Recycle and Reuse"; role of National Productivity Council; and activities schedule for the week through specially prepared power point slides. In his inaugural speech, Dr. B. P. Mohanty, HOD, FREM Division expressed his happiness and explained the relation of this year'stheme of the productivity week with the institute's scientific activities. He pointed out that many waste management strategies required in fisheries sector where both wastes/inedible offals can be identified for their therapeutic values which may be important for human health. Dr. U. K. Sarkar, HOD, RWF Division stressed the potential utilization of the aquatic waste, need of joining hands for successful implementation of theme based activities and formulation of new policies in the institute. He congratulated the team members appointed for National Productivity Week celebration in the institute.

Dr.B.K.Das, Director, CIFRI congratulated all the staff members for initiating the productivity programme in the office. He defined the productivity in simple terms for all staff members including technical, administrative, supporting, skilled staff and students and connected individual staff member with this programme. He explained the ways by which each staff membercan improve his/her working style to safeguard the environment and contributes for enhancement of productivity of individual, institute and organization.

During the presentation, staff members were keen to interact and shared their idea/thoughts to increase the efficiency of the institute. The inaugural programme ended with formal vote of thanks by Sh. P. Maurye. During the celebration week, many activities were organized at CIFRI, Barrackpore. Essay competition for all staff members were organized on 14th Feb. 2017. The topics selected for essay competition were (1) how to increase the productivity of CIFRI employees; (2) India in the eyes of Mahatma Gandhi; (3) corruption free India; and (4) waste management in office premises. Many staff members including permanent and temporary, participated in the essay competition with great enthusiasm. Three best essays were selected by the conveners for prize. Slogans on the theme of the National Productivity Week were invited from the staff members of CIFRI on 15th Feb. 2017. Nearly one hundred and twenty-six slogans written in english, hindi and regional languages were received during the competition.

Best slogans were selected on the basis of relevancy to the theme of the week. A Quiz was organized on 16th Feb. 2017. Enthusiastic participants of quiz programme were segregated into eight groups (four per group) and diverse questions related to theme of this year National Productivity Week were asked to the participating groups. A painting competition was organized for staff members and children of their families on 17th Feb. 2017 in the auditorium of CIFRI, Barrackpore. At least, forty participants attended the painting competition including fifteen children of age group 5 to 14 years. All slogans and paintings with winner’s names were displayed in the office premises for staff members. Closing ceremony was organized on 18th Feb. 2017 in the Auditorium of CIFRI, Barrackpore. Prizes/appreciation certificates were awarded to the winners and participants of the different competitions by Acting Director Dr. V. R. Suresh who chaired the closing ceremony of National Productivity Week 2017. Dr.M. A. Hassan, acting Head of Division, RWF Division were also present on the dais.

All staff members including scientists, technicals, administrative, students and supporting personal were present during this ceremony. Dr. V. R. Suresh expressed his satisfaction on the successful conduct of various activities prescribed for celebration of this week. He also suggested to include many more different activities to make people sensitive about the enhancement of individual as well as institute’s productivity. Dr. M. A. Hassan also suggested few points for celebration of productivity week in large scale. Many staff members shared their views and experience on the productivity. National Productivity Week 2017 was ended with formal vote of thanks by Sh. P. Maurye, Nodal Officer.
