ICAR-CIFRI celebrated 71st Foundation day
Dr. B. K Das, Director, CIFRI welcomed the dignitaries and gave a brief account of the institute technologies, activities, outreach programmes and researchable issues
The chief guest of the function Dr. B. Madhusudana Kurup, former VC of KUFOS, Kochi in his address, stressed upon the importance of fish for livelihood and nutritional security particularly to the weaker section of the society. He also congratulated the CIFRI scientists for releasing several policies and protocols for ecosystem-based fisheries management. Dr. Sudhir Raizada, ADG, Inland Fisheries, ICAR; Dr. S. M. Shivaprakasha, Director of Extension, KVAFSU; Dr. N. N. Rai, Director, Hydrology (NE), CWC, New Delhi; Dr. G. N. Chattopadhyaya, Former Professor, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan; Dr. H. C. Joshi, Former Principal Scientist, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi graced the occasion as guest of honour.
The meritorious children of CIFRI staff members were also felicitated on this occasion. An extension pamphlet in Hindi "Poshokiya suraksha abang gramin bikash hetu chhoti deshi matsya prajatioka palan abang sangrakhan" and a pamphlet on "Proposed activities for celebration of 70th Foundation year" was released was released by the dignitaries. In the late afternoon, Research Advisory Committee meeting have been started.
To commemorate the 71st foundation day a special farmers meet was organized. About 60 farmers from 50 MGMG villages were synergized about inland fisheries issues and doubling the farmers income as per the priorities laid by the Hon'ble Prime Minister. A total of seventy farmers from various parts of West Bengal and of thirty students from tribal areas of Jharkhand participated in the foundation day programme and interact with the scientist of CIFRI which is also compliant with the motto of ICAR i.e. Farmer FIRST student READY. A small cultural programme organised by the CIFRI staff members to celebrate the occasion.
