ICAR-CIFRI organised one day training on Fish feed formulation, feed preparation and feeding management in fish farming



As part of the outreach programme under the ICAR- Outreach Activity-I (Fish Feed), a day-long training programme was organised at Feed laboratory of ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore for 24 students of B.F.Sc. final year from West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences ( WBUAFS), Kolkata, on 23th September 2016, to have an laboratory exposure cum training on “ Fish feed formulation, feed preparation and feeding management in fish farming”. The programme was started with welcome address by D. K. Meena, Scientist. Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Dr. U. K. Sarkar, Head of Division, Reservoir and Wetland Fisheries, Mr. Snehasish Bhattachrya, Assistant Research Officer, FFRTC, Kalyani, West Bengal, faculties of ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore and students participated in inaugural session. Dr. B. K. Das, Director CIFRI, urged students to be focused towards academic carrier and emphasised upon the importance of fish nutrition including selection of ingredients; nutritionally balanced cost-effective formulation and pelletization technique to improve feed stability and conversion efficiency to ensure better profit margin vis-s-vis maintain water quality in sustainable fish production. Dr. U. K. Sarkar, HOD highlighted the applications of cost effective feed in inland open waters including reservoirs and wetlands to maximize the sustainable fish production and profit margin.


 


Technical session was started with two classroom lectures on Principles of fish nutrition and Fish feed preparation and management by Mr. Mishal P. and D. K. Meena. In practical session, demonstration of feed formulation and preparation with the locally available ingredients was conducted. Outreach materials such as leaflets and lectures material on fish feed formulation and preparation were distributed among the students. The feed back received from the students after the training gave high satisfaction rate of the training programme conducted. This training programme helped in updating the knowledge of students on fish feed formulation, feed prepareation and feeding management in fish farming to fullfil the academic requirements and practical applications in fish farming.
