Training to Madhepura farmers of Bihar was inaugurated at ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore
A seven days training programme for the farmers from Madhepur District, Bihar has been inaugurated by Dr. B.K Das, Director, CIFRI on13th October, 2016 at ICAR-CIFRI Head Quarter, Barrackpore. A total of 25 fish farmer including three tribal fishermen participated in the training programme. During inauguration programme, Dr. B.K Das emphasized on the importance of the skill development of the farmers on various aspects of inland fisheries management to secure their livelihood. The module for the training was developed after the need assessment of the farmers and the suggestions received from the previous batches. In Madhepura District there are perennial and seasonal water bodies including mauns and chaurs. So, there is an ample scope of livelihood improvement through development of inland fisheries in the district. Through this training programme, ICAR-CIFRI is aiming to develop the knowledge, skill and attitude of the farmers towards inland fisheries management. The programme is further targeted to strengthen the practical skill of the farmers for enhancing the fish production in open waters viz. mauns, chaurs, ponds, tanks etc. through field practical, field exposure visits, demonstrations and class room sessions. Dr. V. R Suresh, Head, REF Division; Dr. B.P Mohanty, Head FREM Division and Dr. U.K Sarkar, Head RWF Division interacted with the farmers and gave an overview on inland fisheries management. The training programme is coordinated by Dr. A.K Das,I/C E & T Cell and Co-cordinated by and Dr. Aparna Roy and Dr. P. Parida.
