IAS Officer Trainees Visit ICAR-CIFRI During Winter Study Tour

As part of their Winter Study Tour, the officer trainees of the IAS Professional Course visited the ICAR–Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI), Barrackpore, on 10 March 2026. The visit provided them with an opportunity to understand the role of scientific research in advancing inland fisheries and supporting national development goals. Dr. Pradip Dey, Director of the institute, interacted with the trainees and highlighted ongoing research activities as well as future programmes aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
HoDs of ICAR-CIFRI delivered presentations that outlined the institute’s mandate, major research initiatives, and contributions to sustainable fisheries development. The trainees engaged actively with the scientific community, gaining valuable insights into how fisheries research strengthens livelihoods, informs policy support, and contributes to sustainable resource management. The visit proved to be an enriching experience, reinforcing the importance of evidence-based policymaking and scientific innovation in achieving long-term national objectives.
