ICAR-CIFRI Vadodara Centre conducts Swachhata Abhiyan 2026 across three districts of Gujarat.
7-9th October 2026 Vadodara
The Vadodara Centre of ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute carried out Swachhata Abhiyan 2026 in Anand, Bharuch, and Vadodara districts of Gujarat from 7 to 9 October 2026. Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, guided the campaign, with active participation from Dr. S. P. Kamble, Dr. Lohith Kumar, Dr. Dibakar Bhakta and other staff of Vadodara station.
The three-day campaign promoted cleanliness, environmental awareness and responsible waste management. It focused on sanitation, proper waste disposal, plastic pollution and the protection of water bodies from contamination. Recognizing the close link between a clean environment and sustainable fisheries, the team stressed keeping rivers, ponds, canals and other aquatic habitats free from solid waste and pollutants.
Local communities and stakeholders were encouraged to adopt good sanitation practices, avoid dumping and reduce the use of single-use plastics. The campaign also highlighted how waste entering aquatic ecosystems degrades water quality, damages fish habitats and threatens aquatic biodiversity and fisheries-dependent livelihoods.
Such outreach is especially relevant in Gujarat, where rivers, estuaries, reservoirs and other inland waters support rich biodiversity and the livelihoods of many communities. The campaign reinforced the message that cleanliness is a continuous social responsibility, requiring the participation of individuals, institutions and communities alike, and contributed to the national vision of a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
Through this initiative, ICAR-CIFRI Vadodara Centre reaffirmed its commitment to environmental stewardship, public awareness and aquatic ecosystem conservation, and to safeguarding water resources for future generations.
