ICAR-CIFRI released Five thousand fishes in the river Ganga for conservation.

For conservation and restoration of fishes of the Ganga river 5,000 (five thousand) important fish fingerlings were released into the Ganga river at Assi Ghat, Varanasi by ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute on 20th October 2022. Advance size fingerlings of Indian Major Carp viz. Catla, Rohu, and Mrigal fishes were ranched in the presence of Sri G. Ashok Kumar, DG, NMCG in a ranching programme. The event was organized under the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) project. Dr. D.N. Jha, the Center head of the institute informed and explained about the fishes of river and importance of ranching programme. The chief guest of the occasion, Sri G. Ashok Kumar, DG, NMCG released the advance fingerling into the Ganga river followed by Ganga Arti and Swachchhata Campaign by him. The program was attended by officials from State NMCG-UP, Forest Department of Uttar Pradesh, Ganga Task Force, Ganga Vichar Manch, staff of ICAR-CIFRI, Prayagraj and local people living on the banks of the Ganga river.
