Shri H. Dingo Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Fisheries, Govt. of Manipur visited the CIFRI cage culture site at Dumbur Reservoir

Honourable Shri Heikham Dingo Singh, Minister of Fisheries, Social Welfare, Skill, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Government of Manipur along with Shri Heisnam Balkrishna Singh, Director, Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Manipur visited Dumbur Reservoir, Tripura on 14 December 20222 to see the activities of ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore related to reservoir fisheries production enhancement especially the cage culture experiments conducted in the reservoir. During the visit, Shri H. Dingo Singh expressed his interest to adopt the enclosure fish culture activities including pen and cage culture to achieve sustainable fisheries development and production enhancement in the state of Manipur..

He also appreciated the efforts of ICAR-CIFRI in developing the fisheries sector in the North-Eastern States, especially Manipur, and assured to adopt the CIFRI technologies for inland open water fisheries production enhancement in the state. He also seeks technical guidance from the CIFRI as and when needed by the state in fisheries development.
Dumbur is a medium reservoir located in the Dhalai and Gomati districts of Tripura, Northeast India. During last two decades average fish productivity of the reservoir is 120 kg/ha/y. At presently, Dumbur Reservoir has 880 cages. ICAR-CIFRI has been providing training and technology backstopping for cage culture in the reservoir for harnessing the fish. In addition, the Institute has provided 20 tons of CIFRI CageGrow feed, 20 no. net cages and fish seeds to cage fishers of the reservoir during last two years.
