Awareness (Kishan Ghosti) on cage culture and Popularisation of ICAR-CIFRI CAGEGROW technology among cage growers of Maithon and Panchet reservoirs of Jharkhand

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI) Barrackpore, Kolkata in collaboration with District Fisheries Office of Directorate of Fisheries, Jharkhand organized an “Outreach activities on cage culture management (Kisan Gosthi)” to fishers of Gogna village, Maithon dam, Dhanbad, Jharkhand on 26.12.2022 in order to upgrade their capacity and skills of fish farming practices in cages. The program started with welcome address by Dr. D. K. Meena, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI which was followed by a technical cum interaction cum technical session on cage culture management. The scientific experts covered fish culture in cages, fish feed and health management in cages. This program was attended by more than 50 cage growers of Gogna Ghat Matsyjivi Sahyog Samiti Ltd., Scientific team of ICAR-CIFRI and Mr. Mujahid Ansari, District Fisheries Officer, Dhanbad with his team. During the interaction, participants interacted with the Scientific team on different aspects of fisheries and aquaculture. The Scientists urged the participants to adopt scientific cage culture practices for higher production, improved income and better livelihood. Sri Ansari informed the gathering about the role played by ICAR-CIFRI in development of cage culture and reservoir fisheries of Jharkhand. Further, he explained the schemes and ongoing projects for improvement of fisher’s livelihood in the district and state.

Further, Awareness cum Popularisation of ICAR-CIFRI CAGEGROW technology among cage growers of Panchet dam of Jharkhand was organised on 27.12.2022. More than 50 cage and pen growers of Grameen Yuva Vikas Matsyjivi Sahyog Samiti Ltd., Sawlapur, Lakhipur Matsyjivi Sahyog Samiti, Lakhipur, Bharat Matsyjivi Sahyog Samiti, Bengadiya, Bandrabad Samooh, Scientific team of ICAR-CIFRI and Fisheries Supervisor, District Fisheries Office, Dhanbad. During the interaction, participants interacted with the Scientists on different aspects of fisheries and aquaculture. The Scientific expert of ICAR-CIFRI Stressed upon the importance of development of low-cost fish feed and introduction of Best management practices for sustainable production from reservoirs of the country to achieve the goal of doubling fishers’ income. The leaflets on cage culture management and fish feed and feeding management were distributed to the cag growers on both the events. The programme was conceptualised by Dr. M. A. Hassan, In-Charge Head, FEM Division and organized under the overall guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore. Both the programs were coordinated by Dr. D. K. Meena, Senior Scientist, Dr. Rahul Das and Dr. Raju Baitha, Scientist. The organisation of program was supported by Md. Rabuil S. K., STA and Mr. Rakesh Pal, TA of ICAR-CIFRI.
