Dr. Shelton Padua, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CMFRI, delivered a lecture on the significance of GIS tools in ecosystem monitoring, highlighting the use of QGIS and Google Earth platforms. Scientists from ICAR-CIFRI’s Bangalore Regional Centre, Kochi Research Station, Prayagraj Regional Centre, and Headquarters dealt with the topics on the estimation of water quality parameters, water quality indices, sediment analysis, plankton analysis, fish identification using morphological and molecular techniques, otolith study in fishes, trophic modeling, ECOPATH software, biodiversity assessment using PAST software, and microbial indicators for aquatic health. In the feedback session, the participants appreciated the relevance of the training and its applicability, commending the practical sessions and field sampling in particular.
