Boosting Data Skills: ICAR-CIFRI Hosts Hands-on Training in R for Fisheries Research

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) organised a hands-on training programme on “Data Analysis and Visualization in R” during 6th to 8th August 2025 at Barrackpore, Kolkata under the guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI. During the inaugural session, Dr. Das, encouraged the trainees to take the opportunity to learn and become familiar with the basics of the R software for having better practical skills in handling and analysing fisheries and ecological data. The training covered topics including fundamentals of R software, data preparation and cleaning, exploratory data analysis (EDA), data visualization, basic statistics, multiple correlation, regression, and basic ecological data analysis. During the training hands on support was provided to the trainees. The basic code for the ggplot for formation of beautiful graphics was taken in details. In this training programme more focus was provided on practical. The training was attended by nine trainees comprising two trainees from Manipur. The training was coordinated by Dr. P. K. Parida, Senior Scientist and Dr. Lianthuamluaia Senior Scientist with assistance from Mr. Abhilashwodeyar K and Mr. Sanatan Paul.
