ICAR-CIFRI Hosts Hands-on Training on Molecular Tools for Aquatic Resource Management
11th August, 2025
ICAR-CIFRI successfully conducted a Hands-on Training Programme on “Molecular Tools for Aquatic Resource Management” from 4–8 August 2025, for equipping 20 participants including 14 women participants from leading universities and research institutions with essential skills in modern molecular techniques.
In the inaugural session, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, CIFRI, highlighted the pressing need to study molecular responses of aquatic species to environmental stress, especially those critical for food security and biodiversity conservation. The training covered the important topics like DNA isolation, quantification, PCR, gel electrophoresis, protein extraction, staining, and bioinformatics, blending theory with intensive hands-on practice. Along with the internal faculties, Dr. J. Sundray, Principal scientist and Head Fish Genetics and Biotechnology Division, ICAR-CIFA and Dr. A. Pavan Kumar, Sr. Scientist,
ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education took part in the training through online and offline mode as External Expert and enlightened the trainees about advance molecular tool and techniques.Participants represented institutions including Alipurduar University, Zoological Survey of India, Annamalai University, Gurukul Kangri University, Banasthali Vidyapith, Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Presidency University, and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith.
