ICAR-CIFRI conducted a Field Day on “Demonstration of fish disease diagnosis” at Shyamnagar aquaculture complex, West Bengal

A field day on demonstration of fish disease diagnosis was conducted by ICAR- CIFRI at Shyamnagar Aquaculture Complex on 18th November, 2025 for the trainee participants from Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, Jharkhand; Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University, Uttarakhand; Sanjivani Matsya Vikas Co-operative Society, Maharashtra; West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, West Bengal and Vidyasagar University, West Bengal.

The aim of this demonstration was to provide students, researchers and entrepreneurs with hands-on experience in diagnosing infectious fish diseases at the field level, along with practical knowledge in field diagnosis, sampling techniques, and the analysis of environmental and fish health parameters. The field day cum demonstration was conducted by a team consisted of Dr. A.K. Bera, Principal Scientist, Dr. M. Shaya Devi, Scientist, Dr. Nilemesh Das, Mr. Abhijeet Kumar Gupta, Technician under the guidance of the Director, Dr. B.K. Das. Dr. A.K. Bera explained the trainees on how to collect clinical information, sampling of disease fishes. Dr. M. Shaya Devi demonstrated the collection and sampling of diseased fishes for identification of bacterial, virus and fungal pathogen. Dr. Nilemesh Das explained about the activities including fish breeding of indigeneous small fish species and culture of fishes at Shyamnagar aquaculture complex. Mr. Abhijeet Kumar Gupta assisted the demonstration of disease fish sampling and exposure of students, researchers and entrepreneurs.
